This post is written in partnership with Baby Dove, but the opinions and experience are my own. Thanks for supporting the sponsors who help me to bring you content here at Oh Lovely Day.
I think moms are feeling more and more pressure to present themselves in perfect little squares these days. Perfect lighting, matching jammies, clean homes, all white kitchens, and definitely no messes shown on social media. Ever! It affects all of us, but new moms are especially prone to social media pressure and anxiety. Although piles of dirty laundry, tantrums in public and the realistic issues that parents face aren’t typically included in Instagram’s trending photos, they are the realities that most parents face on a daily basis. While social media generally only presents a highlight reel of life, Baby Dove wants to celebrate the REAL moments and showcase the beauty in the realness of modern-day motherhood. I’m proud to be partnering with them, because you know I am all about keeping it real and have no problem sharing the highs and lows of motherhood with you. That’s what inspired my creation of #battlefieldmotherhood. So I gathered up a collection of photos that I love because of the moments they capture, but actually hesitated sharing initially because they don’t look insta-worthy or might disrupt a cohesive feed of squares.
Most days I’m in some sort of athleisure wear, not because I’ve gone to a yoga class but because it is comfortable and appropriate enough to walk my kid to school in. My hair is usually messy, I’m rarely wearing makeup on an average day, and sometimes I forget whether I brushed my teeth. That’s real. That’s motherhood. Especially when you mother and work from home with small children. And that is why I didn’t love the above photo at first. Because I saw myself as a hot-mess mom who isn’t looking my best. But then I looked at those little boys’ faces and realized that this is our day-to-day, and someday it is going to represent one of the best times in my life.
There I am in my yoga pants and a sweatshirt again — no makeup and messy hair. I am always trying to catch Quincy in the mirror because he is so stinking cute when he brushes his teeth. He LOVES to brush his teeth. But the sink is usually doused in toothpaste (seriously, what do kids do with the toothpaste and why is it always everywhere!?) and the mirror is super dirty. But I love the way he is smiling and looking at me. This will be what I look back to and think “gosh Quincy used to love to brush his teeth! Remember that!?”
Gasp! Look at that bath tub. That isn’t a beautiful, Instagram-worthy claw foot tub or a gorgeous tiled shower. The horror. It’s probably not even clean, if you looked close enough. But you know what? That is my baby, having fun in a bath. We have a home and are lucky it has a bathtub. I’m not going to remember how many likes this photo got. I am going to remember his face as he played in the bath. I’m going to remember how I wash those long locks and how he loves to use the soap and a washcloth and recite all of the body parts he is cleaning and how good his baby skin smells after his bath.
A second reason I am glad to partner with Baby Dove — besides celebrating the blurry, low lit, full of life photos like this one — is that their products, all of their products, are dermatologist and pediatrician tested, hypoallergenic and created with no dyes, no parabens, and no phthalates. That’s super important to me because I think it is essential to keep products free of harmful chemicals, especially those made for our little ones. I especially love Baby Dove Rich Moisture Tip to Toe Wash because it has a convenient pump and is made with 100% skin-natural nutrients combined with gentle cleansers to help replenish skin lipids to keep delicate baby skin nourished and healthy. And the Baby Dove Rich Moisture Baby Lotion soothes dry skin from first use and is made from gentle moisturizers that provide 24 hours of moisture.

What are some of your favorite real moments? I have so many blurry pile-up photos of my kiddos amongst a mess of toys, socks they’ve taken off and tossed, and pillows thrown all over the floor. I think those real moments are my favorite <3
