As a health-conscious mom, I’m always looking for ways to incorporate organic living into our everyday. But I’m also a practical mom who is busy, has lots of things on my plate, and is on a budget. So I’ve gotten creative when finding ways to do clean living in our daily lives without making my job harder or busting our budget. And it is easier than you would think! Since September is National Organic Month I’ve teamed up with Honest® Tea and Kroger to share some ways that we incorporate organic living into our everyday that work for me.

One of the biggest things that has helped us incorporate more organic foods has been to grow them ourselves! When we moved to Ohio last year to a house with a big backyard I knew I wanted to plant a garden. It started out as a fun thing to do with my boys, and it grew into a way we learned about where our food comes from, how to make things ourselves, and how to incorporate more organic produce into our meals. I was mindful to choose organic soil and used no chemicals or pesticides on pests. So my kids could literally pick tomatoes off the vine and eat them. Of course, not everyone is able to grow a garden, but even growing herbs or a tomato plant on a patio is great.

While we grow our own organic produce and herbs as much as possible, there are times we need to buy it (my carrots did not do well and caterpillars destroyed my brussel sprouts and cauliflower, plus WINTER). So I try to buy organic when it comes to produce, especially those on the ‘dirty dozen’ list. As far as non-produce items, I stick to organic and fair trade as much as possible. That allows me to prepare meals that are organic, locally grown, and healthy. I feel good when I know I’m not feeding my family meals that are contaminated with harmful chemicals and pesticides.

When it comes to buying food at the supermarket, I try to stick to products with an ingredient list that I can pronounce, whole foods and all-natural things whenever possible, and I buy fair trade organic as much as I can. While it has always been easy for me to find organic produce, I’ve found it challenging to track down good organic options for beverages and snacks when I’m on the go. And as a busy mom of three, I don’t always have time to wash, prep, and pack fruit or veggies — I need easy beverages and snacks that I can just throw in my bag really quickly in the morning.

I have searched and searched for something that is easy to grab on the go but also delicious, organic, and just a tad sweet. I love Honest® Tea because it is real tea brewed with real ingredients. My favorite Honest Tea flavor is the Peach Tea. We also are big fans of the Half Tea Half Lemonade flavor — so refreshing and a great option to grab and throw in the diaper bag or stroller to have a cool beverage for the parents when we’re taking the little ones to the park or out for a picnic.
