I know many of you are brides, and therefore aren’t planning your own showers, but you can always pin this as a big hint for something you would like to have at your shower! And for those of you that are the friends, moms, sisters, and bridesmaids of a planning bride, this post is for you.
I had the absolute best bridesmaids ever to walk down an aisle. They threw me the most lovely shower (which was so completely my style and filled with love and had no annoying games) and the most fun bachelorette weekend ever. And one of the things they did at my shower that I LOVED is what I’m sharing with you today.
A pack of pretty blank notecards was opened and one was given to each lady in attendance at my shower. There were extras to give to close friends or family members who weren’t at my shower. Each person was asked to write a message to my future husband and me for our anniversary. The number of which anniversary the card was for was written on the back of the card, so each person knew which year to write for. Then they were collected, and my husband and I receive one of these cards each year on our anniversary, for the first 25 years of our marriage. Obviously someone has to take on the job of doing this – my mother is mailing them to us. She actually forgot to send the one for our two year anniversary, so we got 2 this year on our three year anniversary, and reading the one meant for year two from one of my besties and bridesmaids made me cry.
I’m a big fan of written notes, and I love receiving cards in the mail. To read one each year on our anniversary, knowing it was written before we were married, is like getting a mini time capsule each year. And it is my favorite. I can’t wait to get all 25.
Do you have any favorite ideas or traditions to share that can be incorporated into a bridal shower or anniversary?
