The last few weeks, my family has been easing into our back to school routine. After a very busy summer where our overall wellness took a back seat to unstructured summer fun and making memories, we’re getting used to going to bed earlier and sticking to a schedule. In addition to our usual routine, I’ve been looking for ways to implement healthier lifestyle habits, such as drinking more water and swapping out the water we used to drink, which for us was tap or filtered water from our refrigerator, with water I couldn’t ensure had gone through a purification process to remove anything harmful. I just don’t trust that our tap water is as safe as I want it to be. And while we have a refrigerator with a water filter, the water quality depends on the age of the filter (and those things are expensive!) and it is only being filtered, not purified. Also, ours is soooooo slooooooow, and I have frequently caught my kids and my husband using the tap rather than investing a solid minute to fill their cups at the fridge. After much research on the best water choice that is also environmentally-friendly, I put a Primo water dispenser in our kitchen.
The machine I chose is the hTRIO Bottom Loading Dispenser with Single Serve Coffee K-Cup® Machine Built In. I realized that while I could swap out my usual tap or fridge-filtered water using Primo, I was still in the habit of making my coffee with an old (and practically worn out) K-cup coffee brewer and filling the water tank with tap water. But the hTRIO with K-Cup Dispenser means any beverage I drink — water, tea, or coffee — is made with Primo water. This ensures that not only am I taking care to give my family better water, but I’m doing it for myself as well (because you know coffee makes up 50% of my daily beverage intake. #momlife)
Having the Primo in-home dispenser right in my kitchen is super convenient. It allows for hot and cold water — like actually cold; not room temp! It is super easy and convenient for my kids to use as well when they want to fill up their water cups. The hot water stays locked unless you press a button to unlock it right before use, which is a great safety feature, and you can also turn off the hot water with a switch in the back of the machine. The coffee dispenser is super easy to use and the top of the machine has a very convenient K-cup storage area. I was shocked by the first cup of coffee I made with my Primo water dispenser — it tasted so much better than my old way of brewing using tap water!
One of my favorite things about using Primo water? The fact that it is dependably pure because the water at the Primo refill stations has gone through a multi-step purification process that includes reverse osmosis. This process removes or significantly reduces the presence of chlorine and chlorine by-products, bacteria and parasites, heavy metals (including lead and mercury), trace levels of pharmaceuticals and many other potential contaminants.
It is so easy to refill the 5-gallon water bottle right at Kroger where I do the majority of my shopping. Primo water is also commonly found at other big-box retail stores such as Home Depot, Lowes, Meijer and Walmart. You can easily find a refill station near you by using the zip-code locator on the Primo website, though chances are you’ve already noticed the rack of 5-gallon water bottles where you do your shopping. You can also fill your Primo bottles at Glacier refill stations — Primo and Glacier are the same company. You might want to consider purchasing a non-spill cap this makes it easier to refill your water bottle at a refill station.
Using Primo water is also really environmentally-friendly. Rather than filling landfills and oceans with tons of single-use plastic water bottles — each 5-gallon bottle replaces 1,100 single-use plastic bottles — I simply refill our water tumblers and sport bottles for on-the-go hydration.
I find that we are all drinking a lot more water than we used to since getting our Primo water dispenser. I love that it is cold, that it tastes great, knowing that we’re drinking high quality water, that we can refill our individual bottles quickly, and that in the long term, we’re saving money and helping the planet by using our refillable Primo water bottle and dispenser. The small investment in the Primo water dispenser saves money in the long-run on water filters for our refrigerator (which are over $40 every few months) and reduces our water usage and prevents any purchasing of single-use plastic bottles. I feel good about the savings in both water and plastic usage, and think it sets a good example for our kids to be conscious of both and discuss the benefits of that choice.
If I’ve inspired you to make the water swap to Primo you can use code WATERGOALS25, which provides for 25% off a dispenser, FREE fast shipping + a FREE coupon that will be mailed for 5-gallon bottle of Primo water (plus another will be in the box when delivered). It’s a great way to get better water into your home, encourage better hydration, be more environmentally-friendly, and upgrade your coffee at home.
