As summer winds down and the kids are getting ready to go back to school we’re taking a look at our Family Fun Bucket List for Summer of 2019 to see what we’d like to cross off the list in our final days of summer break. One activity that is at the top of my kids’ list was Zoombezi Bay (it is, in fact, at the very top of Charlie’s list). We are zoo members and visit often, but we hadn’t explored Zoombezi Bay as a family and were really eager to check it out.
Quincy isn’t a big fan of water he isn’t in control of (three year olds!) so we sent him to the zoo with his grandparents while the rest of us went to Zoombezi Bay. It was such a great decision because then we could do one-on-one time with each kid at the water park, which meant lots of Lazy River time with Calvin while my husband and Charlie did the water slides.
Truth be told, I’d choose lazy rivers over water slides any day. Turns out Calvin feels the same way 🙂 But we also played at the water playground and swam in the wave pool. The playground was SO FUN! There’s a giant bucket that slowly fills up with water and every few minutes dumps all over one area of the playground and the kids love it. It is not a place you’ll stay dry, and on a hot summer day that’s exactly what you want.
One thing I was pleasantly surprised about is that even on a hot summer day that was quite busy, it wasn’t too crowded. Lines for refreshments weren’t long, there were plenty of shady tables to eat, and slide lines weren’t terrible. The busiest area was the locker section of the park. While you do need a locker if you want to not worry about your belongings, it was hard to access ours because so many people were trying to do the same. If you spring for the largest locker size I think you’ll be in a less crowded section.
My husband and my 8 year old were at the park all day. Calvin and I stayed for about 4 hours and then met my mom and Quincy over at the zoo for another hour. In the end, we all had a great time doing exactly what we wanted to do — there is truly something for everyone. I highly recommend visiting Zoombezi Bay before summer’s end.
And if you’ve never been to the Columbus Zoo, you are truly missing out on the ultimate zoo experience. I’ll be sharing a zoo post really soon so be sure keep an eye out! Thanks to Zoombezi Bay for hosting our family! We had a blast.
