DIY all natural bug spray: easy, affordable, and it works! | ohlovelyday.com

It’s summer adventure season and all the fun (and a few not-so-fun) things that go with that. From backyard play and catching lightening bugs in the evenings to nature hikes and lake swims and all that summer goodness — the two things you really can’t live without is sunscreen and bug spray (especially here in the Midwest). I’ve got a great, clean sunscreen covered but I was still hunting for a good bug spray that is all natural and works well. I wanted one without chemicals, DEET-free, and that didn’t cost a fortune. And then it hit me — I could easily make my own, and for cheap! So naturally I had to share it.

How To Make It

  1. Pour 10-15 drops of each essential oil into your spray bottle.
  2. Add two parts witch hazel and one part aloe gel.
  3. Shake vigorously.
  4. Spray generously and keep those bugs away!

So easy, right? I’ve been using it consistently for weeks and have yet to get a bug bite (except when I forget to apply it.) And it smells amazing. The best part though, is that it is safe, all-natural, and chemical-free.

If you want to read more about why I choose the oils that I do, go here. Enjoy those summer adventures without all the bugs and scratching (and fear of West Nile). And if you make this, let me know!
