I don’t know about you, but I love shopping for summer clothes and accessories! And since we’re now in the month of May (which seems impossible) it’s a great time to start stocking up on your summer wardrobe. I’m loving the rompers and jumpsuits this season and there are some really great ones available at very affordable prices. Target and Old Navy have some of my favorites. Add to that a great maxi dress, some chambray, and the perfect accessories and you can pretty much get through the summer with a few basic pieces. I’ve rounded up my five favorite looks for summer, plus a wardrobe round-up below that you can shop directly — because who has time to go into the store to try things on!? Just shop, try it on at home, and return what doesn’t work.
So here are the only things for summer you’ll really need (aside from a swimsuit – you’re on your own there!) to stay cool, look chic, and feel comfy:
The Printed Jumpsuit
The jumpsuit is THE thing for summer, and they’re much more flattering than you would think (even if you’re like me and not model tall or thin). I love this one from Old Navy and also have and love this one from Gap — I wore it to a recent party and received so many compliments.
The Embroidered Dress
This little embroidered dress is so cute and flattering. It can be dressed up or down, making it the perfect summer staple.
The Black Cotton Jumpsuit
Another jumpsuit to have in your summer wardrobe is this black cotton jumpsuit. I love that it is black (forgiving) and cotton (nice and cool). This can also be dressed up or down with your accessories and topped with a collared shirt or jacked for evening. I have two of this one and have gotten so much use out of it already, plus it has pockets and is so affordable!
The Maxi Dress
I love a good maxi dress. This season Old Navy has so many great affordable options, but I think this one is my favorite and comes in several colors. And it is another piece you can dress up or down depending on your accessories.
A good sun hat, sandals, and aviator sunnies are all you need for summer. All three of these pieces fit perfectly with each outfit above, plus shorts, jeans, and even swimsuits. You can switch out your bag from a straw tote to a cute clutch, or go for a crossbody bag in a pop of color to get the best of both. Spend your money on a good pair of aviators (I’ve had mine for several years!) and sandals that will hold up over several summers and buy trendy summer accessories on the cheap (Target or Old Navy are great spots for affordable trendy pieces.)
