I’m so excited to finally be able to share Calvin’s nursery with you. It was a labor of love and I so enjoyed dreaming, designing, and decorating this little space for my little Cal. Once I found out I was having another boy and we knew we were going to name him Calvin and call him Cal for short (which we knew right away because it was a name we loved when we were pregnant with Charlie), I knew that my idea to do an indigo California-inspired nursery was a perfect fit. And it was so fun to do and quickly turned in to my favorite room in our home!
I gathered pieces from some of my favorite brands, like The Land of Nod, Serena & Lily, Minted, and Lulu & Georgia, and added touches from some etsy favorites to complete my vision. There’s a full shopping guide at the end of the post, and a giveaway of some of my favorite details coming later this week!
I’m so in love with this indigo cloud mobile from Baby Jives and those Calvin blocks (and California rattle you’ll see later in the post) from Bannor Toys. Oh, and that sun marquee light from Saddle Shoe Designs – she created that just for me! How perfect would one of those be for wedding decor that you can then incorporate into your home!?
I bought that bull during a blog press trip to Mexico when I was about 20 weeks along, and he’s the perfect addition to Calvin’s eclectic bookshelf! It was our first trip together, just he and I 🙂
Baby already has quite a shoe collection, which is funny because Charlie literally never wore shoes! He was a barefoot California baby, but my obsession with baby moccs (if you haven’t heard of Freshly Picked yet you are missing out!) has benefited Calvin and I can’t wait for him to fit into them!
That dresser was a $150 mid-century Craigslist score. I was initially going to refinish it, but once it was in the room I realized it was perfect as is. I just added our old changing pad from Charlie’s changing table and turned it into a more functional piece than just a dresser or just a changing table.
The photos of that Lulu & Georgia blue ombré rug do not do it justice. It is the most beautiful rug I’ve ever owned and is so so soft. Charlie likes to lay on it and say he is swimming in the ocean, which means my vision worked because that’s exactly what I hoped for when I choose it!
I hope you enjoyed the tour of Calvin’s room – if you love it as much as I do, you can win some of my favorite details later this week, and shop for everything below.
And if you missed our maternity/newborn feature on 100 Layer Cakelett, you can see it here, and also more of my maternity photos that I blogged here and our newborn + family photos that I blogged here.

Wow! What a beautifully organized nursery, we love the indigo AND the California inspiration!
So adorable! I have enjoyed watching the development of the nursery on your Instagram. I love your enormous changing pad. Where is it from? I need it!
It’s just a standard size changing pad – got it from Potterybarn Kids before my first was born. The cover is from a shop here in LA.
Oh really? Maybe the PBKids ones are just more plush than my summer infant one. Thanks!
What a cutie! And he has a great room to grow into!
What a wonderful space you created and that shot of you and Calvin in front of the sun – just swoon!
OMG! Love the nautical theme and all of the adorable whales! So cute!
Everything is my favorite! I love the nautical bundle. Your attention to detail is amazing. Everything goes perfectly!
I love love love this entire nursery. It’s exactly how I wanted my baby’s nursery. Everything shibori!!
This nursery is absolutely adorable!!! If only I had half of the creativity that you have! And…I’m so obsessed with whales. Too cute!
This is such a peaceful and harmonious space. I love the bull you got in Mexico and the story with it!
You have done such a beautiful job with this nursery! I love mostly monochromatic blue color scheme you have used, it really does portray a sense of peace and tranquility such as that you find next to the ocean. Also, all the little details you have added (such as the bull from Mexico, ship wheel & cloud mobile) really make it special!
