Relaxed Barn Wedding | Orange Owl Photography on Oh Lovely Day

As one half of a high school sweetheart couple myself, I’m always drawn to other childhood sweethearts out there.  Tanya & Andy made every detail of their wedding personal and really thought about their guests’ enjoyment during the planning. Plus, they were high school sweethearts. Ah, romance. Plus, look at that bouquet!

Your inspiration for the day? We wanted to have a rustic, but elegant feel. We wanted to make sure it was a warm and an inviting environment where our guests could feel at home. My Father-in-law put so much time and effort into making our personalized bean bag toss game and our “Best Day Ever” sign.  I was able to make all the lawn signs by hand using an old pallet.

Advice for couples planning now? The best advice I can give is, take a deep breath, it is going to be chaotic and it is going to be stressful, but all worth it in the end. This is a day to celebrate your love and journey, and ultimately, you need to make decisions that will make you happy, not everyone else. Decide on what is really important to you and splurge a little (i.e.: photographers, food & beverage, flowers), everything else is so minuscule in the end.

I think our favorite moment of the day was our last dance. The entire barn was cleared out and it was just us and the music. The lights were turned down and everything was dripping in candle light. It was a quiet moment where we held each other close and we were able to reflect on the day and our lives ahead of us.

How did you make your wedding YOU?

We were able to put so much of us into the wedding making it very personal. Our ceremony, conducted by our long time friend, gave everyone a glimpse into our long traveled road and our handwritten vows were very intimate and personal. We also wanted to show our personalities through our food selections; we’re kind of foodies (Beer Bread for him and Red Velvet for me). Finally, a dance party was what we really wanted to have and that we did. We wanted to make sure that the music played reflected us as a couple, we choose every song that was played, everything from Johnny Cash and Creedence Clearwater revival to Daft Punk. We danced the night away with family and friends, drinks and koozies (per my husband’s request) in hand!

High school sweethearts who wanted a personal wedding and a dance party? My husband and I have so much in common with this couple. I love how personal each detail was, from the food choices to the musical selections. That is how you make your wedding YOU. Congrats to Tanya & Andy!
